I’m a big believer in practicing what I preach. Since I am always preaching about how important it is for moms to get in photos with their family, I booked us a family session recently! I thought it might be a good idea to share what I learned from taking our own family pictures!
What I Learned From Taking Our Own Family Pictures
1.) Pictures won’t take themselves… planning is crucial. I learned you must make family pictures a priority. How often do we get caught up in the hustle and bustle and a month goes by… or several months… and then a year. If you don’t make family pictures a priority at some point time will keep going by and you will miss the moments.
2.) I’m not just taking these pictures for me… I’m doing it for my kids (and grandkids) too. How many pictures of yourself do your kids have access to? How often are you in front of the camera? Will your kiddos have images of you to look bak on one day?
3.) Making myself a priority for the pictures got me even more excited about the experience. I figured out what I wanted to wear first and planned around that. Would you believe I even got my nails done and makeup too as a treat for all the planning that went into it!? I made sure I looked good and felt good for the session. And guess what? If mom is happy, everyone is happy; it’s a fact of life.
4.) Trusting your photographer and their vision for the shoot is a must. Being a photographer myself, I have an idea of what I want, but I also know that I can’t be behind and in front of the camera at the same time. Thankfully I hired an amazing friend Esther of Pendo Photography to shoot our family photos. I love and respect her work and I wouldn’t change any of her ideas.
